Known as Mawi among his colleague, the 26-year-old has responded well to Michael Feichtenbeiner, Selangor's interim head coach task to play him as the left flank even though the right defender is his original position.

Talking to the press, the experience playing in the left defensive position in several matches with the Harimau Muda squad in 2015 has really helped Ashmawi take up the challenge.

"Last time with the Harimau Muda team, I used to play in the left defensive position in several matches. That experience helped me to give my best in the recent match,” said Ashmawi.

The Seremban, Negeri Sembilan-born player also expressed his gratitude for the trust given and wanted to give the best for the Red Giants.

"I am also grateful for being given that trust and hope to always give the best for Selangor," he added, who has already made 5 appearances with Selangor for this season.

Ashmawi has played exceptionally in the last few weeks, especially against PDRM FA last week, where his cross has assisted Ifedayo Olusegun, Selangor talisman striker to score his eighth personal goal of the season in the 19th minute.
